Putin is no Hitler
May 21, 2014
Recently there has been a rash of politicians labeling Russian President Putin a Hitler.
The latest faux pas was created yesterday by Prince Charles of Wales who called Putin a Hitler when speaking to Holocaust survivor. The first time I heard it was when Hillary Clinton compared Vladimir Vladimirovich to Hitler in reference to former’s annexation of Crimea.
Without getting into the legality of joinder of Crimea into the Russian Federation, calling anyone by the name of the worst tyrant in history who was responsible for deaths of millions of people belittles the significance and remembrance we attach to the Holocaust. It must have especially pained the survivor Charles was talking with that the person who is responsible for the murder of her relatives would be compared to a politician who justly or unjustly annexed Crimea without a shot being fired and who does not have the blood of Ukrainians dripping from hands.
With regard to Hillary – her utterance was even more disturbing. Prince Charles does not carry any diplomatic weight and never will have to deal with Russia in that capacity. Hillary, on the other hand, has presidential aspirations and may have to negotiate in good faith with a man she once vilified as a Hitler.
To conclude, calling a Russian, whose country suffered the most in WWII a Hitler, is particularly heinous in my book.
